Tennesse Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars, Friday 1:20AM, Sky Sports
This Thursday night AFC South match up sees the winless Jacksonville Jaguars face the Tennessee Titans at EverBank Field. The Titans opened their season with a big victory over the Browns in Cleveland before suffering a tight 19-17 defeat to the Indianapolis Colts. On the other side of the gridiron, the Jaguars are in disarray. Starting QB Nick Foles is out with a broken collarbone and star cornerback Jalen Ramsey has requested a trade.
This game will be a tale of two running backs. Titans head coach Mike Vrabel has enough muscle to counteract Jaguars’ RB Leonard Fournette. The 24-year-old was held up on the Jags two-point conversion attempt last week against Houston, costing them the victory. In the Titans backfield, Derrick Henry is in the form of his life.
The Tennessee Titans running back hit the Jaguars defense with four touchdowns in their Week 14 match up last season, including a 99-yard TD run. He broke the Titans rushing record that day with 238 yards and he has gone from strength-to-strength since. The 2016 2nd Round draft pick has breached the endzone nine times in his last six regular season games. He will have a big role to play this week.
The Titans will be bringing a win back to Nashville.
Pittsburgh Steelers at San Francisco 49ers, Sunday 9:25PM, Sky Sports
The San Francisco 49ers have a great chance to get off to their first 3-0 since 1998. The NFC West team looks calm and composed with Kyle Shanahan calling the plays for Jimmy Garropolo. They face a winless Pittsburgh Steelers in this Week 3 game.
Second year QB Mason Rudolph will be in as a starter for the Steelers after Ben Roethlisberger suffered a season-ending injury in last week’s loss to the Seahawks. The 49ers pass rush was relentless last week and Nick Bosa will be looking to pad his stat sheet with a couple of sacks.
On the offensive side of the ball the 49ers have been very impressive in the first two weeks of the season. Jimmy Garropolo has been effective in the air finding targets like Deebo Samuel and Marquise Goodwin while their rush offense has been headed by Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert. That duo put 273 yards on the Bengals defense last week.
These two teams are headed in opposite directions. The 49ers will continue their perfect start.
Los Angeles Rams at Cleveland Browns, Monday 1:20AM, Sky Sports
An interesting clash between two franchises with Super Bowl aspirations takes place in Cleveland late on Sunday night. The Rams have picked up where they left the regular season last year and they are 2-0 after two weekends of Sunday football.
Baker Mayfield & Co. redeemed themselves somewhat on Monday night with a victory over the Jets but they will need to produce a big performance and victory on Sunday night if they want to get their opening day loss to the Titans off their minds.
There is a couple of interesting matchups to keep an eye on when the Browns have the ball. The Rams have one of the best pass coverage teams in the league with Eric Weddle, Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib being the headliners. Mayfield has struggled at times this season but with Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry running routes, Freddie Kitchens’ team always have a chance.
Even though it’s early stages in the season, the Browns need a win to prove their title credentials. It’s time for Mayfield and Beckham to step-up to the mark.
